From Humble Beginnings to a Sanctuary of Hope
Dana grew up in Orange County, California, with a deep love for animals and a lifelong passion for their care. Terry, raised in Los Angeles, had more limited experience—his childhood pet was a cat—but he shared Dana’s compassion. Over 35 years ago, the two purchased land in Temecula with the dream of creating a safe haven for animals in need.
What began modestly—with two rescued dogs, a pet rat, and two birds—soon blossomed into something extraordinary. As the years passed, they welcomed horses, goats, potbellied pigs, farm pigs, sheep, llamas, donkeys, birds, chickens, and even animals saved from laboratories, including mice, pigs, and rabbits.
What started as a simple, loving home has grown into a peaceful, heavenly sanctuary. Today, Golden Years Animal Sanctuary is not only a refuge, but a symbol of compassion—a place where formerly unwanted animals now live out their lives surrounded by safety, dignity, and love.
